Stonehenge at Christmas
This ancient site had been on my bucket list for years. I was finally able to visit over a Christmas break.
It rests on Salisbury Plain near Wiltshire, England. Due to bone fragments found nearby, it is believed that it was once a burial site. Also, the entire monument is aligned towards the sunrise on the summer solstice and sunset on the winter solstice.
Stonehenge was constructed in several phases, beginning about 3100 BCE and continuing until about 1600 BCE.
Visitors may get close to the stones only during special days. Otherwise, it’s roped off. Advance tickets are required and are only available through the official English Heritage site. Plan accordingly.
Where am I now? You can find me on Blue Sky.
