The Lost Vacation
I took a road trip from Santa Fe, where I was living at that time, to New Orleans, creating a loop.
The next year, I was diagnosed with brain cancer. While in a rehab facility, my MacBook crashed. Or so I was told because I have no memory of that time. A tech person tried to transfer all of my work onto a new MacBook.
In the end, I lost all of my screenplays and scripts, and an untold number of photographs.
This is what was saved from that road trip:
This serves as a reminder to save all of your files in at least two places.

I started this photo journal on January 1st, 2026. I’ve faithfully posted every Sunday morning. But so many people have suggested I write a book about my journey with brain cancer. I didn’t think I could go back to those very dark places. I’m actually finding it very therapeutic.
I’ve written three screenplays, many years ago, while living in Los Angeles; all three were optioned but never produced. Frustrated I moved to Santa Fe to become a photographer.
With screenplays, you condense your words; while writing a novel, you expand. There’s a saying, “Screenwriters can tell a story in five words. Novelists need 5,000 words.”
In life, I've always been a minimalist. There’s no junk drawer in my place. I believe that may be the hardest part of writing a novel. So I attended a “Shut Up & Write” meeting a few days ago. No one is writing a memoir. But they offered me some suggestions.
So I’m starting my writing journey too…
Where am I now? You can find me on Blue Sky.
